Croatian Snow Sport Instructors and Trainers Association (HZUTS) is a voluntary vocational association of ski instructors and trainers, as well as beginner instructors, and their associations from the field of work of Croatian Ski Association.
Membership of HZUTS includes ski instructors, beginner ski instructors, ski trainers, beginner ski demonstrators and ski demonstrators. Ski instructors include those with Croatian license (IVSI) and international license (ISIA).
Regional unions are associated with HZUTS. HZUTS consists of seven regional unions: Union of ski instructors and trainers 'Nik Krčmar', Zagreb, Union of ski instructors and trainers Osijek, Union of ski instructors and trainers of the Primorsko-Goranska county - Rijeka, Union of ski instructors and trainers Ogulin, and Union of ski instructors and trainers Istra, Union of ski instructors and trainers of Northwestern Croatia and Union of ski instructors and trainers Slavonia and Baranja.
There are over 1100 ski instructors and trainers members of HZUTS, of which some 1000 actively partipates in HZUTS's work.
HZUTS is a member of Croatian Ski Association, and international ski associations - ISIA (International Ski Instructors Association), IVSI (Internationaler Verband des Ski Instructors) and Interski.
INTERSKI is the overall world's organization of ski instructors. Its members include all organizations of ski instructors and trainers from all countries where ski instructors and trainers have organized associations. HZUTS has been a member of INTERSKI since 1992. INTERSKI includes ISIA and IVSI organizations. ISIA is the world's association of professional ski instructors. The certificate issued by HZUTS after passing ISIA exam and the license that a ski instructor gets guarantee that their training has been done in accordance with high international standards required by ISIA.
ISIA license is the most appreciated license, and instructors with ISIA license constitute best ski instructors in each country. ISIA license is possessed only by those instructors who continually take part in expert seminars on ski instruction. ISIA license is issued for each year separately. Some 320 HZUTS members have valid ISIA licenses for the current year.
IVSI is the association of amateur ski instructors. The certificate and the license issued by IVSI guarantee that a ski instructor has completed a course for ski instructors, and that they constantly attend advanced expert seminars on ski instruction.
Both licenses, ISIA and IVSI, guarantee that a ski instructor is trained for ski instruction. Both licenses are internationally accepted, by all ski resorts and all countries.
HZUTS is headed by a president. The president of HZUTS is also the president of the Executive board of HZUTS. The Executive board includes 11 members. HZUTS has two vice-presidents and a secretary. The president of each regional union is automatically a member of the Executive board. Work of the Executive board is divided into committees. There are four committees in HZUTS: training committee, economic committee, committee for ISIA and Interski committee. The training committee consists of nine subcommittees: expert subcomittee, subcommittee for instructors, subcommittee for trainers, subcommittee for demonstrators, subcommitte for exams, subcommittee for snowboarding, subcommittee for cross-country skiing, subcommittee for telemark and subcommittee for sports on snow of the persons with physical disabilities. Each of the committees and subcommittees has a president and a vice-president.*

In mid-December, at the beginning of every ski season, HZUTS organizes an advanced expert seminar for validating licenses. It is only through participating in this seminar that a member of HZUTS can validate ISIA and IVSI licenses, or take an exam for ISIA license or an admittance exam for a course for ski instructors. Every year, some four hundred members of HZUTS participate in this seminar.
Every year in spring, in March, in cooperation with Ski Academy HZUTS organizes a course for training new ski instructors. This is the only way of gaining the status of a ski instructor, and it can be entered into the book of labor. Every year, some hundred and forty candidates participate in the course, of whom some seventy pass the exam.
In 1999, a team of best HZUTS ski demonstrators called CRO SKI DEMO TEAM participated for the first time in the world's biggest meeting of ski instructors that takes place every fourth year - the INTERSKI congress. In Beitostolen, Norway, our demonstrators presented the achievements of the Croatian ski school, and a very attractive and impressive show. The presentation was by all participants of the congress considered one of the best ones, which was followed by invitations from different countries to show presentations, openings and closings of the ski seson, and establishing different forms of expert cooperation. Thus, the world of skiing only confirmed the quality of Croatia's instructors, and programs of training implemented by HZUTS. Members of the first HZUTS team participating were Danijel Jurković, Dag Modrić, Goran Lanc, Ozren Rađenović, Damir Blašković, Danko Štrbac, Ivica Franjko, and Radovan Saks.
In 2000, preparations began for the next INTERSKI congress, to take place in Switzerland's Crans Montana in January 2003. The preparations are in full swing now, and Demo Team has been somewhat changed; Leon-Tomislav Grgurić, Majda Krčmar, Ana Jurković and Tea Đurek joined. Although the finances are insufficient for implementing the preparation program in its entirety, the goal has been clearly set - continue the successes from Norway, and show that in the field of skiing Croatia has its place among other European and world's countries. WAYS OF TRAINING SKI INSTRUCTORS BEGINNING SKI INSTRUCTOR - All those interested in gaining the status of a ski instructor are required to first pass the admittance exam for the course for instructors. The admittance exam is taken before a three-member commission and consists of three figures of Croatian school of skiing. All figures must be passed with a positive mark (1 being negative, and 2,3,4, and 5 positive marks). After passing the admittance exam, candidates are allowed to take the first part of the course for ski instructors. After passing the first part of the course, candidates are given a certificate of gaining the status of a beginning ski instructor. On basis of this certificate, and paying membership dues, a beginning ski instructor becomes a member of HZUTS and receives a membership card. At the same time, a beginning ski instructor gets a temporary license. It s valid for two years and it allows a beginning ski instructor to do, under supervision by a ski instructor with a valid license, a week-long training practice. |
| WAYS OF TRAINING SKI INSTRUCTORS |
SKI INSTRUCTOR - After the training practice, beginning ski instructors take the second part of the course for ski instructors. In the period between the first and the second course beginning ski instructors must take the theoretical part of the course for instructors. Taking theoretical exams is organized by Ski Academy. After passing all theoretical exams and all exams of the second part or the course, candidates are given a certificate of gaining the status of a SKI INSTRUCTOR. A ski instructor gets a card with an IVSI mark valid for 3 (three) years from the year when the last figure of the second part of the course was taken. The license must be validated every third year through participating in the license validation seminar, organized before or after the season. After three years of being a ski instructor, an instructor can take an exam for ISIA license. ISIA license is also valid for three years and has to be validated on the seminar. ISIA license exam consists of three figures of Croatian school of skiing, all of which must be marked positively. Apart from paying annual HZUTS membership dues, ski instructors with ISIA license also pay ISIA annual membership dues.
BEGINNING STATE DEMONSTRATOR - Ski instructors with a valid license (IVSI or ISIA) are allowed to take an admittance exam for beginning state demonstrators (PDD). The admittance exam consists of three figures of Croatian school of skiing, all of which must be marked positively. Candidates who pass the admittance exam for PDD can take a PDD course. The admittance exam for PDD is also valid as an exam for ISIA license for instructors who don't have ISIA license; given all other conditions from license regulations have been met. At the end of the PDD course, candidates take a PDD exam, which consists of three figures of Croatian school of skiing. Provided all figures are marked positively, the candidate is given the status of a PDD and enters the PDD ranking, based on their average mark on the exam. License is valid for three years. If the exam for state demonstrator is not passed in the period of six years, a PDD loses their PDD status.
STATE DEMONSTRATOR - After three year, a PDD takes the state demonstrator (DD) exam. At the end of the DD seminar, a PDD takes an exam consisting of all figures as PDD exam does. Given all of them are marked positively, a PDD is given a DD status and enters the DD ranking, based on the average mark given on the exam. |
