Zagreb (CRO), 07.07.2003. Janica Kostelic was operated on today in an orthopedic clinic in Schruns (AUT) This afternoon Janica Kostelic's right meniscus was operated on by Dr Christian Schenk who removed its frontal part that was causing the pain. You could say that that part of her knee was completely crushed.
After the arthroscopic surgery, that lasted more than half an hour, dr Schenk was pleased and he is very optimistic about her condition and the stability of her right knee. He also thinks that today's operation was absolutely necessary.
Janica will be returning to Croatia on Thursday where she will begin with the rehabilitation with her physiotherapist, Mr. Miodrag Radic, who will have all the needed instruments for quality rehabilitation.
The rehabilitation will last until the beginning of August when Janica will be able to start with the condition training. She's expected to return on snow at the beginning of September in Hinterteux, the autumn and spring base of the Croatian Alpine Ski Team.
Janica will miss the trainings in Zermatt (SUI) from July 20th until August 2nd with Ivica, Nika, Ana and the whole B-team. Still, we are sure that she will be her true self at the beginning of season (end of October), after she finishes with the rehabilitation and trainings in September.
